1st field trip.

Sylvie was so excited to go on her first field trip today! Her class visited Liberty Baptist's pumpkin patch, went on a hayride through the woods, listened to a story, and chose a couple pumpkins to take back to their classroom.

The Nest (detached garage with apartment)

IMG_5577 Welcome to The Nest! This will soon be our temporary home while we (mostly Randy) do all the finish work inside the big house. So we'll be going from about 2,000 sq. feet of living space to 728 sq. feet. The garage will be where most of our current house is stored. The electrician and plumber (who are one and the same) has the wiring and plumbing roughed in already, so we're waiting on the roof and siding before we can go much further. After that, it's our deal. After we've moved out, it's going to be the guest house and the garage will be Randy's shop.

Kids' room and a kid. Sylvie claimed this room for them because it looks out into the woods so they can see deer.

Little (big) House on the Pasture

IMG_5542 This is what's been going on for the past month and a half! It's been surreal having the house plan that I know inside out start coming to life.
IMG_5553I took a bunch of photos of the inside to do a little tour, but then suddenly the framing was DONE. The windows and most of the outside doors are in now, so I'll be taking updated photos this weekend to post. I've relied on Instagram to track progress as it's gone so fast. It's slowing down now, and while it will be neat to see the roof and siding go on, the rest will likely be pretty boring as the plumbing, wiring, and insulation go in. I can't wait for drywall to go up and really make the rooms take shape!

First Day of School.

Those socks!

He would have rather walked in on his own, but I told him it was a mama's (and a daddy's) job to walk him to class the first day of school.

He has an awesome teacher! She was a friend of mine during middle and high school, and one of her little girls is Sylvie's best friend from play school.

Missy Prissy was SO excited to start pre-k!

She is in the same pre-k classroom as Elliot was, so she remembers the routine of hanging up her backpack on the porch. Piggy had a much needed back-to-school bath, and gets to hang out in Sylvie's cubby until nap time everyday.

She was nervous, but very brave. No tears or clinging to us!

Sylvie said she had so much fun, and talked non-stop about her day and all the things they did. Elliot, in typical Elliot fashion, grinned and looked thrilled as we pulled up to pick him up, then turned into Mr. Grumpkins as soon as his rear end landed in the seat of the van, said he didn't have a good day, and that his stomach hurt all day. He mumbled, grumbled, and complained about everything, refused to share any details of his day, and then eventually perked back up about a half hour later.

Kids say...

It's probably the hottest part of the summer right now, and Randy and I are attempting to get back into jogging. The kids are kinda miserable hanging out at the track while we do laps. Elliot puked one evening after jogging a lap, and was stung by a wasp another evening (first time, and happy to report that he had no reaction.)  Sylvie was in a Mama mood (almost always) yesterday evening so she managed to keep up with us walking and jogging so she could stay beside me. She gave up after a while, but not before one last attempt to convince me to stop and carry her. "Mama, my brain just feels like it needs you."

Kids say...

Sylvie: Let's play a game!
Me: Ok, what kind of game do you want to play?
Sylvie: Make one up!
Me: I know a really fun one! It's called Sylvie Lays Down in her Bed and Takes a Nap.
Sylvie: *groans in disgust and dramatically slaps her hand across her eyes* That is an AWFUL game.
